SCHLOSS ESTERHÁZY in Fertöd

Nikolaus Esterházy (the lover of splendor) had it built between 1763-66. The heyday of the castle can be dated to 1768-90, during which time balls, theater performances, concerts and hunts were held here on a regular basis. The archduchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary Maria Theresa was among the numerous guests of the palace, mostly belonging to the nobility.
